This is Howie. He came to us a few weeks ago as a stray dog picked up on a busy street by a good samaritan. Howie is a matted mess of a dog with a very sweet temperament. He needs urgent grooming since his ears, face, feet and butt are all matted solid, but Howie became ill. He wouldn't eat or drink and was very lethargic. It's not the time of year that we think of parvovirus, but he tested positive for parvo. Howie is now receiving 24/7 veterinary care for the virus. Once Howie recovers, we can get him groomed and neutered. But Howie has another issue.........his right rear leg is lame. We will need to Xray it to see what is the cause. Howie is one lucky guy to have been picked up by this good samaritan.
Laura, the groomer at Harper Woods Vet, felt bad for the condition that Howie was in so she donated her time today to groom him up. Here is a photo of handsome Howie with Laura.
Thank you to Laura, and all of you that have donated for Howie's care. We will update you on Howie's condition soon.
Howie's xray revealed a previous fracture above the knee cap on his right rear leg. It has healed and cannot be repaired except to remove the leg. Dr. Pillsbury does not see any need for amputation at this time as Howie does not seem to have pain and can use the leg for balance. He has recovered fully from the parvovirus and is happy in his foster home where he is trying to regain his weight and strength.
THANK YOU to all of who donated for Howie's care. We wouldn't be able to help these dogs and cats like Howie, if not for you.
