Wendell came to our shelter after being found out in the cold as a stray. The finder knew that Wendell was injured and needed help. We took him next door to Harper Woods Veterinary and Dr. Nancy Pillsbury evaluated the puppy and did some X-rays. Wendell is a mixed breed, believe to be about 4 months of age who sustained a previous injury which badly fractured his right rear leg above the knee. He also had an injury to his tail, his toe nails had been ground to the quicks and one nail was missing. Despite whatever pain this young pup endured, his sweet nature and personality won us all over immediately. Whitney named him Wendell and he loved it! Dr. Pillsbury scheduled him for surgery.
It was Dr. Pillsbury's hope that the leg could be saved with a pin, but it was too badly fractured and the scar tissue had caused other issues. Wendell's leg was amputated on Friday, but you can see in this clip taken today that it hasn't slowed him down a bit. He can get around just as well on 3 good solid legs. If you'd like to donate to help with Wendell's medical expenses, he would greatly appreciate that and will be happy to give you a kiss when he makes his debut.
